Impending Water Crisis in India and Various River Disputes

A post after a loooong time! just started preparing for GD PI's . thought of posting my views on various topics......

let me first share my views about the water scarcity problem....
It is said that the third world war will be either because of oil or because of water. Water scarcity is hovering above us as the next big problem that we as a nation of second largest population or the world at large will face . It is being predicted that one day all the fresh water sources will die and we will have to survive only by treating sea water. Yes problems are many what is important is what we can do to overcome this and find a feasible solution.
  1. we should start managing our water resources efficiently and effectively
  2. recycling water used in industries
  3. come up with a location specific solution
  4. give awareness to panchayats and municipal bodies and encoourage them to come up with a better solution or region specific strategies, and let them carry out the operation on their own. We have the example of chennai - had a city based neighborhood based strategy.
  5. rain water harvesting during the monsoon season.
  6. privatization of water for augmentation, distribution , drainage, effluent treatment etc.

river disputes
:
  • indo-pak for indus river
  • indo- bangladesh for ganga
  • UP haryana delhi for yamuna
  • karnataka TN for cauvery
  • karntaaka AP maharashtra for krishna godavari
  • punjab haryana for ravi-beas
The main reason of these conflicts is uneven distribution of rainfall in our country, some regions like brahmaputra and mahanadi basins face floods during monsoon while other regions face recurrent drought.
These conflicts are creating distrust and disharmony between the people of neighbouring areas.
Extreme delay in courts has a negative impact on economic growth, negotiations between the state government seldom work.
Therefore there should be clear laws or acts regarding water sharing between the states. A much contested solution is interlinking of rivers but is opposed because of high costs involved.

I WISH...

I wish I were a bird ....I would have flown far off where no one could see me, no one could hear me , no one could find me. Life would have been peaceful... nothing to worry about, no deadlines, no one to expect something from you, no expectations to fulfill of someone you loved ....life would have been better if not great.

I wish I were an ocean…. I would have taken everything into me and survived with great majesty ….would have absorbed all the sorrows and all the pains… all the trivia of life, responsibilities of being in a relationship,…. could have washed off the sadness from the life of the one I love….life would have been meaningful if not long.

I wish I were the season of spring…..I would have given joy to people around me and shown the beauty I possess…..would have sprinkled happiness and beatitude…would have given felicity of being in me…in waiting for me. Life would have been like a feeling of being wanted if not lasting.

I wish I were a pillar of trust ….I would have given hope that things will be fine and sadness will go…. Would have been something you could confide in…would have been something you could rely on….Life would have been like being entrusted if not mobile.

I wish I were a flower….I would have spread the fragrance of love and friendship…..would have brought a smile on a face….would have expressed the love I contain….Life would have been like being loved even for short period if not for lifetime.

But I am not any of those …..I wish I were ….life would have been better if not great.

STRAY THOUGHTS

As I was crossing the road I came across a stray dog going opposite way, I smiled at him; confused he stood still for a moment, and then followed me waging his tail. Perhaps, he found that incongruous and strange. Or may be he followed because he felt exhilarated from inside at the thought of him getting importance from others. Imagine yourself walking down a street and noticing that no one walking past is even looking at you, you feel unwanted, just then a lady smiles at you, those negative feelings fly away, and that one thing makes your day.
Stray animals in India have always been the neglected slot. Concept of house for stray animals is still pretty unexplored. Moreover, public view about them is also much taken as granted – they are there because they always were. However, there has been an increase in the number of NGO’s working for stray animals but active mostly in bigger cities.
As socially responsible citizens we must do something for them. Make donations or participate in a rally for them. No Time…? Yes! We have busy lives and most of our mind is into thinking about people, who do no good to us, and give us new topics every time to think and get stressed. Believe me it’s certainly not bounded by money donations or attending such public meetings. There’s another way. Just give a smile! They’ll feel good just as you do. Animals too have feelings, they get happy, sometimes sad, they cry, they enjoy, they learn, everything is similar to us. Next time you come across one just try and take them as beings and not animals. Take my word, if you develop this, will help you stay sane. As the saying goes - A smile is something you can't give away; it always comes back to you.

Fanaa banned in Gujarat.... Aamir Khan pays for freedom of expression

Narmada Bachao Aandolan has been in the news since it started – be it Medha Patkar or ...Aamir Khan. Misunderstanding what people say is quiet common nowadays, so is inferring things which are not even thought of! What Aamir said was about allocation of land for people who’ve lost their houses and lands, misunderstood as being against the dam which is beneficial for people of Gujarat. This is just like saying “You stole it!” to someone who is searching for your lost wallet!

Freedom of expression! Well...now you don’t have the freedom to use it. Aamir did pay a heavy price for that. Flaming posters of Fanaa and threatening multiplex owners – all this and much more! Banning Fanaa though not actually desired by the film distributors of Gujarat but found it as a better option than getting their multiplexes and cinema halls damaged by some antisocial elements. These people demanded Aamir to say sorry to the people of Gujarat, for absolute no reason at all – why should he?

The groups who are protesting , burning effigy’s , shouting anti-Aamir slogans seem more of led by rumors than facts. On one of the TV shows of public opinion, people of Gujarat were being asked about what they thought of the matter, the answers were in favor of the actor! It seems that the common man is more aware of the truth and loves Aamir khan not only for entertaining them from his mesmerizing acting but also for the boldness of his thoughts on social issues.

Do You Know Me?

well what to write!...
lets see if i can think of a good topic ....hmmm...
lets write something about me..moi!
Ingenuous is what people think about me.. I think...yes to some extent, but let me tell you I am a great actress, you'll never know the real me! I bet you can't make out when I am happy and when I am really sad. Well for that look into my eyes, believe me they speak volumes! Pure at heart ,yes you may think that ! true indeed. The reason is not that good sounding, that's because I am too much self-centered to think about others. By others I mean, people who chose me as their friend and me - greatfully accepted their friendship! Not much into thinking about them,so pure heart, but yes whenever I meet them I am lively enough to make them feel special!(Thanks! to the great actress inside me- it comes naturally!) And yes the people I like are really SPECIAL to me, only I know how much they mean to me, no one else, not even them! here I can say that I may seem to be an ambivert or extrovert but in reality I am an introvert particularly when it comes to sharing my feelings. I've never done that! Except to yes God ofcourse - My Best Friend, guide, teacher!

By the way am not that bad..Now some GOOD things...emotionally strong! My greatest strenghts - according to me , some take it as my negative point but thats OK!- they don't matter to me :-) And yes don't try those mind games on me - u'll lose! I may appear innocent but, looks can be deceptive! Indefatigable ..I can work work work ...and still work! sometimes I do wonders..don't ask me how!

MOODY ...yes! Not mad eye moody(just to add a bit of humour! Please laugh.)I can be fun to be with when I am happy(thats when i m showing my 32 teeths) and just stay away when I am not..i need time alone!(that varies from straight face to a smiling one!) Another thing , if you ask me my opinion or you ask a question , i'll give you the best answer according to me..never ever argue on that with me coz i'll say nothing and thats something i consider rude enough - it was you who asked me!

its not over .....more to come stay tuned!
